[3-1] Contributing Music [4] Acknowledgments ------------------------- CHAPTER [1]: Introduction ------------------------- [1-1] The CGSC Project ====================== The CGSC Project is an attempt to accurately archive all Compute's Sidplayer music files into one complete collection. The project was started in November of 1998. The previous SID collections were less comprehensive, were not sorted into any order and contained many repeats. --------------------------------- CHAPTER [2]: Collection Structure --------------------------------- There are several ways in which most SID collections have been organised. To name a few, by author's first name, by categories or just a simple rat's nest of SIDs. We have chosen to arrange the collection by the author's name or by the author's alias if it was used more frequently. Finally, we usually only give composers their own directory when we have three or more tunes available from them. This then makes it a little easier for you to locate the composer. Some files have been given special extensions to their names. Below is a list of those extensions: _(BAD) - Tune plays but sounds funny after a while. _(SHORT) - Tune plays but stops after a while. _(NON) - Tune does not play any sounds at all. NOTE: These are marked BAD, SHORT or NON only if they do not play on *all* music players. _A _B _C etc.. - Where duplicate tunes exist within the collection, each is given a letter suffix. Each duplicate is slightly different, so each version was kept. _Remix - The tune is a remixed version Below are a some comments about a few special directories: /00_COMMODORE64 - Contains some useful Commodore Programs such as Sid/Pic and Stereo SidPlayer. /00_DOCUMENTS - If you are reading this document, then most likely you have already figured out what this directory is for. /00_UTILS - Source code written in Visual Basic to help assist in "sorting" out MUS, STR and WDS files. These are only of use when adding new music to this collection. There is also a utility to help playing MUS files with SIDPLAY/W is the subdirectory MUSPLAY. /MISC - For tunes where the Author does not have their own directory. Subdirectories A to Z exist so that the tunes can be "split down" into smaller groups. They are split by authors surname where possible. /MISC/ANON - For tunes with no known Author. ---------------------------- CHAPTER [3]: How Can I Help? ---------------------------- [3-1]: Contributing Music ========================= We love to receive new Music for the CG SID Collection. Here are some other items we are looking for: * Complete collections directly from the composers (this is most ideal as they will usually have all the information we require, too). * Fixes of SIDs already in the CG SID Collection. We have found several tunes that do not play properly, have missing STR or WDS files, etc. Do if at all possible check them on a C64 first. - We ONLY want Compute's Sidplayer SID tunes. If you have any music files and would like to send them, there are several methods in which this can be achieved. I would prefer them to be emailed as an included attachment (preferred). There are other possibilities so feel free to email and we can arrange what ever is most convenient. Please also DO NOT send any attachment that is more than 500KB without mailing first to let us know and that you have confirmation from us it is okay to send. Unfortunately, a lot of phone companies' pricing structures mean that we have to prioritise our time on line to this effect. ---------------------------- Chapter [4]: Acknowledgments ---------------------------- Thanks to the following for help: ================================= Funet FTP site - Grabbed all the music files (http://www.funet.fi/pub/cbm/c64/audio/sidplayer/index.html) David Strauss - For sids from his web pages (http://www.miracomcorp.com/dave/sids.html) HVSC - Based this document on yours High Voltage CD #2 - For the SIDS subdirectory Agust Arni Jonsson - For NemeSIDs #18-#19 Meikkeim - For a few disk images with sid music on them (http://members.aol.com/meikkeim/sids.html) ICPUG - for music files from their c64 Software Library Snakeman - For a lot of the new sids added in version 1.1 of CGSC (http://www.wipd.com/~snakeman/c64sids.html) Jan Diabelez Arnt Harries (Rambones) - For sending me a copy of his collection The Shark - For a few MUS files and some comments on the layout of the collection - For telling me about http://www.monroeworld.com/ Shane R.
